Cheryl Bower was born and raised in Tuscarawas County, studied music from an early age and was involved in the music program of the Moravian church. She attended Sherwood Music School in Chicago for one year and transferred to the Univ. of New Mexico as an organ performance major.
She relocated to San Diego and served area churches for 20 years as organist. Organ studies were continued with Ladd Thomas, chair of the Organ Dept. at USC, for 5 years.
Her position with a college textbook publisher led to a move to Ft. Worth, TX, where she served as organist/choirmaster for the next 15 years in Episcopal churches of that diocese.
Cheryl participated as a chorister in a tour of Switzerland, with southern CA Swiss singers, the program including songs in five languages. Another choir tour was in England with a Ft. Worth choir, and included singing Choral Evensong at Wells Cathedral and St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.
She currently also plays trumpet with the Dominic Greco Concert Band in Tusc. County, as well as the Recollections Swing Band.
And she is grateful to have been able to move back to her home state (go Buckeyes!) and to find this wonderful parish of St. Timothy’s to continue sharing her love of serving as parish musician.
